We’re not entirely sure what this means but it sounds important.

Have we reached peak IoT yet?

In a world where anyone can talk nonsense about the Internet of Things, isn’t it nice to know that there is a place where you can go and spend time with people who know what they are talking about and have been building the Internet of Things for years?

“Can IoT Save the High Street?” asks Cambridge News

“Can IoT Save the High Street?” asks Cambridge News

Write up of IoT Forum 2016 from Cambridge News.

“The IoT forum gathered academics, entrepreneurs and investors at Robinson College to discuss the commercial potential of IoT, a connected future where devices can provide services and data to make our lives easier.

“Among the speakers on the packed two-day programme was Eva Pascoe, founder of the world’s first internet cafe (which was in Siberia, if you were wondering) who now runs a digital think tank called Cybersalon. She was commissioned by the Government to write a report on the role technology can play in stopping the falling number of shoppers using high street stores.”

Five Key Takeaways from IoT 16 | Guest Blog Post | Internet of Things

Five Key Takeaways from IoT 16 | Guest Blog Post | Internet of Things

Five Key Takeaways from IoT 16.

Nice summary of some of the big issues discussed at last week’s IoT Forum by Berenice Mann at AMIHO, who took part in the Data vs Devices discussion.

This year the BLN’s IoT Forum has shown that there is further progress in IoT, with some companies presenting case studies of deployed IoT solutions. But there is still a long way to go on many fronts.

A great concept that came out of the conference, but applies equally to any sphere is the idea of ‘Pinch with Pride’. Shared by Marie Gilmour of Crossrail’s Innovate 18 programme, it refers to the fact that people copy good ideas, so if your innovation, improvement or idea gets pinched – be proud. The more times it’s copied, the better the idea. I love this concept!

My key IoT takeaways.

Questions Questions for the BLN IoT Forum | What attendees would like to know.

“Is there something wrong with me for not wanting an Apple Watch?”

We always ask what attendees what question they would like to find an answer for by coming to our events. Not everyone responds but the questions for tomorrow’s IoT Forum give a good idea of the kind of things we will be talking about. If you are coming and have some answers, please find these people – ask us on the reg desk and we will try to help you connect.

The answer to the first question is, ‘No’

IoT Forum 2015 Ones to Watch – Cocoon raises $3 million from Aviva Ventures and BreedReply.

Nice to see Cocoon make progress – one of last year’s Ones to Watch at the IoT Forum 2015 – they closed a round of funding of $3 million in the new year. Interesting that some of the money came from Aviva Ventures, one of an increasing number of corporates who are thinking about how their business models will be impacted by the Internet of Things.

This year’s Ones to Watch DEADLINE for applications is Monday 15th February.

Building Security into IoT | Internet of Things Forum | Electric Imp

Building Security into IoT | Internet of Things Forum | Electric Imp

Hugo Fiennes was the Hardware Manager of the original iPhone, a patent holder for NEST and is now CEO at Electric Imp. Few people understand hardware security better than Hugo.

He shares his thoughts on some of the major considerations that IoT hardware needs to, but largely isn’t, taking into account. IoT security encompasses requirements that are new for many product designers – provisioning, authentication, OTA upgrades and link encryption – and weaknesses in any one could potentially be used to compromise the security of the end product. From physical attacks to analysis of communications channels, there are many possible attack vectors that need to be considered.

From hacked routers to refrigerators sending spam email, there have been a lot of scary news stories about Internet of Things (IoT) security, or lack of it. Some great thoughts on making sure you don’t make the headlines for the wrong reasons.
