Innovation Programme Manager, Nichols Group

Marie Gilmour is an Innovation Champion with the Nichols Group, an elite company of strategic change specialists, involved in the planning and delivery of the UK’s most complex and iconic projects, such as Crossrail and High Speed 2.

Marie led Crossrail’s world class Innovation Programme, Innovate18, from January 2014 until March 2016. Under her leadership, the programme saw the introduction of products and services from a variety of Small and Medium Enterprises and engagement with Academia, including Imperial College, Reading University, and Cambridge University’s Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction. Marie has a track record in mega projects, having designed Integrated Control Systems for major projects, and led a number of Strategic Reviews focusing on Governance, Strategic Risk and Deliverability. Prior to her work in the Infrastructure industry, Marie provided IT Consultancy Services for a number of years.

Running Ahead of the Hype. IoT in the Real World

While some pundits speculate that the IoT is a triumph of hype over reality, in many areas, the IoT is already playing a significant role in enabling mega-projects. Marie will talk about some of the challenges and successes for driving value from the IoT in infrastructure mega-projects. Marie will draw from recent experience in Crossrail, insights from the big 3 H’s (High Speed 2, Hinkley and Heathrow 3rd runway), Thames Tideway and Crossrail 2, She will also give her view on the opportunities to drive value from this field in current and future projects, both in terms of delivery and in realising smart infrastructure.
